Jonathan Groff Has Signed to Play Taylor Kitsch’s Lover in “The Normal Heart.”
Glee actor Jonathan Groff has signed on for a dramatic role in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming HBO film The Normal Heart.
The film is based on a largely autobiographical play by Larry Kramer chronicling the rise of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s. Groff will play Craig, an early victim of the disease and the first lover of Bruce Niles (Friday Night Light‘s alum Taylor Kitsch), an investment banker who becomes an AIDS activist.
Also just cast: Longtime character actor Joe Mantello as Mickey Marcus, a man who’s an instrumental member of the Gay Men’s Health Crisis.
The actors join previously announced cast members such as Julia Roberts (Dr. Emma Brookner), Mark Ruffalo (Ned Weeks), Matt Bomer (Felix Turner) and Jim Parsons (Tommy Boatwright). The Normal Heart is expected to premiere next year.

This is the trailer for the documentary Taylor did for the African Children’s Choir. Taylor shot and directed it himself while on a trip to Uganda a few years ago, and he posted it on his YouTube channel a few weeks ago. Taylor is seen at various times in the video. After a full year+ since shooting this in Africa (Kenya/Uganda/Rwanda/Republic of South Sudan) over the span of 17 days w/ myself and one other person(TH)… We are finally excited to show ya a little trailer for an Organization I’ve been working with for more than 5 years now. “The African Children’s Choir”. Each time I’ve left Africa, I’ve left inspired, hopeful and lucky to have been affected by so many people, especially the children. I journeyed throughout Africa with the ‘ACC’ to try and capture that same energy that has enveloped me… To inspire hope. Through the children and the people that continue to make a difference throughout. To show a glimpse into the things they’ve done and continue to do. I want to thank everyone involved with the ‘ACC’ who facilitated this trip and the ones to come. I want to thank David Gray for his song “Who’s Singing Now”. Taylor Kitsch to Join Star-Studded Cast of “The Normal Heart”
Deadline reports that Taylor Kitsch is joining the star-studded cast for Ryan Murphy’s HBO adaptation of Larry Kramer’s Tony-winning play The Normal Heart. The cast includes Julia Roberts, Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons, and now Kitsch. The story focuses on the onset of the AIDS crisis in 1980s New York City. Kitch will play a closeted investment banker who eventually becomes an AIDS activist.
