Taylor Kitsch: I’m not playing Finnick in ‘Catching Fire’
Finnick Odair, described by author Suzanne Collins as an Adonis-like womanizer, first appears in “Catching Fire” and has a complex relationship with heroine Katniss Everdeen. So admirers of the series were thrown into a tizzy this week when E! News reported that filmmakers had narrowed down the casting to three heartthrobs: Taylor Kitsch, Armie Hammer and Garrett Hedlund.
But you can knock one of those dreamboats off the list, because Kitsch says he won’t be joining the cast of the mega-successful film series.
“Not going to happen,” the 31-year-old actor wrote in an email on Wednesday.

Anonymous asked: Taylor did say he wouldn't play Finnick. It was in an MTV interview (I think it was about John Carter but I don't remember exactly) during the Twitter questions.
I think you’re right. It was definitely during the Twitter questions on MTV, but I can’t for the life of me find it. I remember, though, that he was absolutely adamant when he said he wouldn’t do it. I also know that “Lone Survivor” starts filming September 15 in New Mexico, and that “Catching Fire” starts shooting in late August somewhere (I want to say North Carolina, but I’m not sure), so unless Finnick’s role has been significantly reduced in the film and Taylor does double-duty AND he’s changed his mind, it’s not going to happen. Both of those films should expect to shoot for AT LEAST 3-4 months, and Taylor’s role in “Lone Survivor” is in nearly every scene.
If anyone finds the video of Taylor saying he wouldn’t do the part, I’d like to post it, so send it to my inbox, please!
Anonymous asked: just wondering if you'd heard anything about the rumour that taylor might be finnick!!! i would love that!
Yes, I’ve heard the rumors, including the fact that Twilight author Stephenie Meyer wants him to play the role, and this article from Marc Malkin on E! Online today. I side-eye that article’s claims VERY HARD, considering that Catching Fire is being filmed more or less concurrently with Lone Survivor, Taylor’s next project. Also, am I imagining things, or did Taylor specifically say in a recent interview that he wasn’t interested in the part? I can’t remember what interview it was, but the point is, I’ll be very, very surprised if Taylor gets the part, considering he’s both uninterested and unavailable. That E! Online looks like they rounded up fan wishful thinking.
mayamdina asked: know the dates of promotion of savages
WELL, I’M GLAD YOU ASKED. Please ready yourself for the world’s most overlong reply ever (Sorry). I think the dates are still being discussed and hashed out, but I can tell you what I’ve read and inferred.
Typically, the LA premiere of a movie is 10-12 days before the national release date, so that should be June 26, 27 or 28 in Los Angeles. Also, according to this article in The Hollywood Reporter 3 days ago, Oliver Stone will be screening Savages for attendees of CineEurope in Barcelona, Spain on the morning of June 19, 2012. I have heard that Aaron Johnson will be there, so I’m assuming Taylor may be there, as well.
According to IMDB, the film will have a premiere in Colombia a week after the US release on July 13, 2012. Part of the press tour for Battleship also went to Cartagena, Colombia. Universal Pictures produced both Savages and Battleship, so they may be recycling their contacts there and Savages may stop in Cartagena for its press tour. (The European dates have been the same for months and are likely just not updated to the newer, sooner premiere dates to match the US and Colombia.)
So, my very rough guess for now is that Taylor will be in Spain/Europe the third week of June, LA the last week of June, and Colombia the second week of July. While Taylor, Aaron and Blake are the stars of the film, this is a very large ensemble cast with a lot of A-list names, so we should expect for the press engagements to be more evenly distributed among the ensemble. That means Taylor will not necessarily be front and center for every press engagement, if at all. I’ll post more as I learn about them!

Taylor Kitsch arriving in what looks like Austin, TX, and, yes, still wearing the same John Carter baseball cap he’s been wearing for a year. Bless.
“This guy came up to me and goes, ‘Next one. Don’t worry about it, you’ll be fine,’” Kitsch chafed. “I’m like, ‘I’m not worried about it, man. I didn’t market the movie. I didn’t finance it. I gave everything I had to the film.’ It sucks to feel like you have to be defensive. But if someone’s gonna take the fall, it’s gonna be me.”
